Indeed, we all have legit questions on what tomorrow will look like based on how we live today. In fact, in my sign off, I encourage you to “Live today, a story you’d want to tell tomorrow.” Forecasting the future and planning for it is an essential part of life. Yet, when our “What if’s” consistently disrupt “What is,” we cease being where our feet are at.
Read MoreOne of the most elusive elements of life are endings. Endings can produce both fear and exhilaration. Be it the end of a book, end of project, end of a relationship, end of a day or end of a year, endings tend to illicit certain feelings out of us.
Read MoreWhen we pit good against the great, we create an unhealthy competition between the life we have and the life we want. When this happens, we relinquish the greatness in our present moment for the sake of future greatness.
Read MoreFor many of us, the masterpiece of our lives is hiding behind the excess waiting to be removed. We live our lives, encumbered by the “extras” that surround us. Our minds are cluttered with negative thoughts; our hearts weighed by heavy emotions; our bodies slowed down by excess fat; our souls deflated by restless moments.
Read MoreOur real self is who we are when we release the stories, labels, and false narratives that have been placed on us by others, and maybe even ourselves. Our real self is discovered when we let go of the pretentious, “just being ourselves.”
Read MoreThe more we understand that our lives are a story being told, the greater value we’ll give to the setting in which our story is unfolding. Every action, or inaction demonstrates the value we place on our setting. How we interact, engage, handle and treat the earth will affect future stories and narratives, for better or worse.
Read MoreI don’t believe that most of us struggle with desire. We all want to make our lives counts. We want to live lives that matter. We envision ourselves living a life, greater than ourselves. Our struggle isn’t with what we want to do, but with how we actually live, each day.
Read MoreSomething magical happens when we walk our city, listen to the sounds and rhythms and connect with the heart beat of the people. A refreshing sense of purpose and meaning swell up in us. The place that we live in, eventually becomes the place that we love.
Read MoreI don’t have many pictures of my childhood years. In fact, I only have one. It’s no wonder it holds such value for me. Much of it’s value is in how it allows me to view my adult life in light of my childhood years. I mean, who hasn’t spoken the words, “I was such a different person back then,” or, “If I could do it all over again, I’d ______________.”
Read MoreWe sometimes have such a hard time managing love because we expect perfection from those who say they love us with their lips but fail (as humans do) with their actions. We are all guilty. If Jesus is Love and all that I read in the love chapter of the Bible describes all He is and able to do, then I want to love too. Because if Jesus found me worth dying for because of Love (John 3:16) the least I can do in gratitude is give my all by how I love also.
Read MoreFearful thoughts can swoop in so quickly, almost immediately. Fear is that thing on our path that stops us, turns us around and leads us back in the direction of our comfort zone. It shows up when making decisions about taking on new projects or sharing our work with others. Fear is perfectly normal. It’s there to keep us from wandering into the street off of the sidewalk. Fear protects us. But when it comes to pursuing a creative life, fear is limiting.
Read MoreLiving a great story begins with the beginning. In fact, every story we live in began somewhere. And remembering that somewhere, reminds us of what we’ve lived through. It is our ability to remember what we’ve lived through that gives us the capacity to embrace what we’re living in.
Read MoreOne of the greatest gifts we can give someone is our full attention. It is when we are attentive to others that we become aware of who they really are. Here is where we listen to hearts, hear minds and resonate with souls. Our hearts and minds and souls were made to be shared. This is why we can’t wait to share good news, and why we need to express bad news.
Read MoreOnce you live a good story, you get a taste for a kind of meaning in life, and you can’t go back to being normal; you can’t go back to meaningless scenes stitched together by the forgettable thread of wasted time.
Read More...we humans are most alive when we are imagining, making and creating things. We are all born creative. We are all born with wild imaginations and an insatiable desire to make things. No one is born without that creative spark because that piece of ourselves is our innate curiosity. And for that, we are all creative.
Read MoreGuest artist, creator and storyteller, Alex Chaparro writes on how great art starts from within. Alex shares on how art is then expressed outwardly through any and all ways that we choose to express it. He challenges us to express ourselves the best way that we know how to. Alex invites us to trust that we are creative and that we can lead a creative life if we just simply believe in ourselves.
Read MoreAs we live out our stories, it’s essential that we identify what kind of story we want to live. You’ll notice I didn’t say “what” story, but rather, “what kind,” of story. Truth is, life is unexpected and our story can unfold unpredictably. We usually don’t get to choose the story that we find ourselves in, or better said…the story that finds us. However, we do have a choice as to how we’ll live in any given story.

Life is unpredictable and loss of anything can be unexpected. With this in mind, we should consider holding onto material things loosely in our hearts while keeping memories of them firmly in our minds.
Read MoreJust because we are alive, doesn’t mean we are living. Just because we have breath, doesn’t mean we are breathing. Sometimes, it takes someone who loves us enough to step into our tragedy, touch our hearts in such a way that reminds us to not fall asleep on life—to continue to live each moment as our best and potentially, last moment.
Read MoreWe’re all in search of a good story. We all want to live a story, within a narrative that feels right, and safe and beautiful. We want the knight to save the princess, the frog to become a prince and the world to be a paradise. We want the beginnig of our story to smoothly connect with the end. Yet somewhere in our subconscious is the latent vision that the way things are, isn’t how they’re supppsed to be.
